Egils Levits: valsts zinātniskie institūti veido Latvijas zinātnes izcilības potenciālu | Valsts prezidenta kanceleja (president.lv) Egils Levits: valsts zinātniskie institūti veido Latvijas zinātnes izcilības potenciālu 4. oktobrī Valsts prezidents Egils Levits Rīgas pilī tikās ar Valsts zinātnisko institūtu asociācijas pārstāvjiem, lai pārrunātu zinātnisko institūtu nākotnes attīstību un vietu Latvijas zinātnes  ekosistēmā . “Paldies, ka veidojat un uzturat Latvijas zinātnes izcilības potenciālu! Jūs padarāt Latviju redzamu pasaules  zinātnes  kartē,” pārrunājot 2020. gada Latvijas zinātnes starptautiskā izvērtējuma rezultātus, teica Valsts prezidents. Latvijas neatkarīgie valsts zinātniskie institūti ir ļoti augsti novērtēti no neatkarīgo ārvalstu ekspertu puses. Zinātnisko izcilību pierāda arī tas, ka zinātniskais personāls, kas strādā šajos institūtos, konkursa kārtībā piesaistījis 38 % starptautiskā finansējuma. Valsts prezidents uzsvēra, ka zi...

WHY THE BALTICS ARE BECOMING THE HOTTEST STARTUP REGION IN EUROPE

Image
https://siliconcanals.com/news/startups/baltics-becoming-hottest-startup-region/ Why the Baltics are becoming the hottest startup region in Europe A decade ago, the startup ecosystems of the three Baltic countries – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – barely existed. Today, the region boasts at least 6 unicorns, some 2500 startups, and frequently tops the rankings for Europe’s most startup-friendly countries. Still, the Baltic startup scene has plenty of room for growth. Keen to benefit from the region’s business-friendly regulation and tech-savvy talent, founders from countries as close as Belarus and as distant as Australia are choosing to build their startups here. Let’s look into the reasons why in a bit more detail. - Partner content - Europe’s hottest startup nations Having displayed impressive momentum over the last 10 years, the Baltic startup scene has thrived even in the face of the pandemic. The investment data we recently compiled for the  Baltic Start...

DURING PAST ICE AGES CO2-LEVELS WERE LOW, AND DURING WARM PERIODS CO2- WAS HIGHER

Image
https://skepticalscience.com/co2-higher-in-past-intermediate.htm Do high levels of CO2 in the past contradict the warming effect of CO2? What The Science Says: Climate and CO 2  levels have always varied together. During past ice ages CO 2  levels were low, and during warm periods CO 2  was higher. The rock “weathering thermostat” prevents a runaway climate on very long timescales. Climate Myth: CO2 was higher in the past "The killer proof that CO2 does not drive climate is to be found during the Ordovician- Silurian and the Jurassic-Cretaceous periods when CO2 levels were greater than 4000 ppmv (parts per million by volume) and about 2000 ppmv respectively. If the IPCC theory is correct there should have been runaway greenhouse induced global warming during these periods but instead there was glaciation." ( The Lavoisier Group ) Climate closely matches  CO 2  throughout the geological record   Figure 1: Temperature (top) and  CO 2  (b...

9-11 2021: THIS IS A TIME TO ENGAGE THE UNO SECURITY COUNCIL

Image
9-11 2021: a time to engage the UN Security Council By Vidvuds Beldavs Twenty years ago, Al Qaeda operatives struck the U.S. resulting in the deaths of 2,974 people.   The U.S. responded, invaded Afghanistan, defeated the Taliban and weakened Al Qaeda preventing further attacks on the American homeland.   In the 20 years that followed in Afghanistan millions of girls and women were educated and wider opportunities were created for the Afghan people. Now the Taliban have seized power again.   Paul Miller sees the fall of Kabul as a major milestone in the collapse of world order . Miller points to other milestones including the occupation of Iraq and the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. There are many other signs of collapse at a time when a functioning world order is critically needed to address climate change, pandemics and other global threats. Jeffrey Sachs appealed to the G7 to call for the early recognition of the Taliban as a legitimate ...
